Do Underwire Bras Cause Breast Cancer?

Bras / lingerie / Underwear - 6 weeks ago -

For years and years, women have long embraced the fact that bras are an essential part of their daily wardrobe. And why not? Bras are important because they provide comfort and keep our assets in shape. But of course, there will always be misconceptions and myths when it comes to wearing intimates. One popular myth would be that wearing an underwire bra can give you breast cancer.

An underwire bra has been debated by women everywhere. It has been said that its wire can press lymph nodes at the side of the breast, and too much will lead to a toxin buildup, which is a probable cause of breast cancer. A recent study does NOT show any evidence linking underwire bras to breast cancer. So don’t be afraid of wearing one– it’s clear that there are several other factors that lead to breast cancer, and wearing an underwire bra isn’t one of them.

Convertible Strapless Bras

A strapless bra is an essential to a woman’s lingerie collection. While we know that it’s best to wear them with elegant gowns that bare those lovely shoulders, you’ll be glad to know that they now come with strap hooks or gaps, so you can snap or place straps on your strapless bra to convert it into a different style.

We love this idea because of its practicality– we love the fact that we only need one convertible strapless bra to create so many bra styles to match every occasion! Some styles that you can do are of course, a regular strapped bra over your shoulders. Another one would be an “x” styled or a cross back style which is perfect for sport tank tops. Wearing halter tops are now made easy, if you use one strap on your convertible bra.

You’d be sure to have convertible strapless bras as your newest best friend.

Bras / lingerie / Mastectomy Bras / Maternity Bras - 3 months ago -

A boutique for wigs as well as bras has recently opened in Sango. The boutique, which is named “Teresa’s Perfect Fit,” is accordingly a bra and wig boutique dedicated to come up with the “right fit every time.”

The bra boutique is located at 3375 Highway 41A South in Sango Village.

The owner of the bra boutique said that they aim to offer quality and durable underwear.

“We fit each client individually with a full line of bras from 32A-46M,” said owner Teresa Poston. “I plan to have available this summer, a large inventory of mastectomy products that post-breast surgery patients may need.

“I am currently going through all the certification and accrediation process and it will take (until summer) to complete,” she said. “The store is locally owned and operated by myself and my husband, Phil. I am a 20-year breast cancer survivor and have been a nurse for 40 years. This has been something I have wanted to do for 17 years and am so excited about providing this service to Clarksville,” she added.

The owner of the bra boutique said that appointments are preferred. However, these aren’t necessary. She also said that her boutique offers these other services: Lipo in a box, shape wear from Connie Elder International, wigs and wig caps, scarves, and maternity bras, tanks, loungewear and other products. You’ll find shaping cups, jewellery and more.

Call 358-0030 for details. Hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. After-hours appointment times are available.

Restricted Rating On YouTube For Maternity Lingerie Ad

Bras / lingerie - 3 months ago -

A maternity lingerie ad has reportedly received a restricted rating on the popular video sharing website YouTube, to the chagrin of many women especially expectant mothers.

The maternity lingerie ad, which was commissioned by Hotmilk, received a restricted rating on YouTube. And as such, it cannot be viewed just by anyone else. The maternity lingerie ad can only be viewed if the YouTube viewers confirm that they were at least 17 years of age.

Hotmilk is a maternity lingerie company based in New Zealand. The company produces and manufactures maternity lingerie as well as nursing lingerie.

The said maternity lingerie company said that their ad reportedly got the flag because their campaign was too racy.

Hotmilk co-founder Lisa Ebbing came up with the idea for the company in 2005 when she was pregnant with her first child. She says this was before the “yummy mommy” phase, when the underwear options for expecting and nursing mothers were limited. She and her business partner Ange Crosbie decided to cater to mothers who still wanted to feel sexy.

Ebbing said that starting the company “basically took a lot of hard work and what we in New Zealand call Kiwi ingenuity, which is doing something with not much money and not much time,” Ebbing told us. “We pretty much had an idea, scraped up the money, and did it on a shoestring.”

“We had to go out and buy all the components of a bra and make the first samples ourselves on our home sewing machine. I then became the model, my husband the photographer and graphic designer. We then bought a book on html and built ourselves our own website, and Ange, my business partner travelled the country selling product while juggling another job.”

What’s Your Nude?

Bras / lingerie - 3 months ago -

A campaign recently launched on Facebook is reportedly targeting “true nude” bras for women of colour. The Facebook campaign is dubbed the “What’s Your Nude” and it aims to mobilize women who are supposedly fed up with the lack of diversity in the development and production of bras or lingerie. The “What’s Your Nude” campaign, which is set to be launched on February 1, 2012, is the brainchild of Tara Raines, African-American psychologist and consumer who has spent years searching stores for her shade of nude.

Raines decided to launch the campaign when she learned recently that for more than 30 years, many of her family members and friends have been dying widely-sold buff and blush-coloured bras brown to create darker hued nude bras, an effort that the majority of lingerie companies have refused to undertake.
”Women of colour have tremendous spending power in the U.S. and it’s absurd to think that in 2012 we are essentially disenfranchised when they shop for lingerie,” said Raines.

“It’s my hope that this campaign will drive not only awareness, but swift action by bra makers.”

The campaign wishes to urge women who wear bras to contact companies that manufacture bras and demand greater representation across new and existing lingerie collections.

According to Raines, roughly 250 women have now signed up in support for this unique bra campaign.
”I don’t think it’s too much to ask that bra makers include darker hues when manufacturing their collections,” said Raines. “Women of colour deserve to look and feel sexy, and a big part of that is looking like ourselves.”
